POOR CREATURE THE WHOLE TOWN KNOWS
An Irish supergroup of sorts, Poor Creature have announced their debut album All Smiles Tonight via Rough Trade imprint River Lea. Formed by Ruth Clinton of Landless and Cormac MacDiarmada of Lankum, the (now) trio have expanded to include esteemed experimental drummer John Dermody. Produced by the master of darkness himself, John 'Spud' Murphy, the LP is spearheaded by their 7-minute epic, 'The Whole Town Knows'. Tumbling through traditional Irish folk melodies, the first 3 minutes of the track is an arresting duet between Clinton and MacDiarmada, before an inevitable uncanny wig-out. Layered with haunting drones and hair-raising layers of percussion, the hypnotic outro drags you in slowly like quicksand before falling away entirely. All Smiles Tonight will arrive on the the 11th of July and you can catch Poor Creature live in London supporting Lisa O'Niell at The Southbank's Royal Festival Hall on the 20th of September. -Holly Mullineaux
